Within its supportive role, Korek has sponsored a program in attempt to eradicate illiteracy in the Kurdistan Region. The program was sponsored by Korek and was in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Kurdistan Women Union.
The sponsorship corresponded with the International Literacy Day, which is on 8 September of each year. Korek believes in the importance of literacy and the literacy’s contribution to achieve the prosperity and peace in the society.
The program included an intensive course for two months, which has been held in the headquarters of the Iraqi Women Union, from 6th September to 6th November 2014. At the end of the session, twenty four graduate participants received certification under the approval of the Ministry of Education. The certificates have been awarded during a ceremony on 10th October, in the headquarters of the Kurdistan Women Union where representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Kurdistan Women Union and Korek have joined the ceremony.
