As Part of its Humanitarian Aid Korek Telecom Launches a Fundraising Campaign to Help the IDPs through SMS Donation Service
Erbil –September, 11, 2014
Korek Telecom continuously struggles to expand its humanitarian assist and efforts to help the IDPs who have become the victim of the recent security issues throughout Iraq.
Korek has always supported and sponsored various civil society institutions in different parts of Iraq. Korek made these attempts possible by making use of its communication technology, which in turn helps both the customers and those who wish to help and donate. In order to contribute even further Korek has recently introduced a fundraising campaign to collect donation from its users for the internal displaced people (IDP)s in Iraq. For users who want to send their contribution, all they have to do is to send a blanked short text message (SMS) to the provided code (2999) which cost them only (1,200) IQD for each text. The first part of this donation has been publicly given to Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) and Iraqi Red Crescent on September 10, 2014. Each of BCF and Iraqi Red Crescent will then directly distribute the revenue of this contribution among IDPs all over Iraq.
During the ceremony of handing over the donation collected from Korek users’ SMS to those two organizations, Korek thanked all participants who have reached out their contribution through SMS and encouraged other users to donate. Korek also extended gratitude to its staff members who have contributed with their salary to help the IDPs. After that, both BCF and Iraqi Red Crescent highly appreciated Korek’s new attempt to help the IDPs as part of its humanitarian assist.
Before that Korek’s humanitarian aid campaigns have already started in August 11, 2014 and it is still on going. Hundreds of tons of basic need materials and tents have been distributed among the IDPs in different provinces in Iraq like Shingal, Makhmur, Karkuk, Musil, Talafar and etc. The distribution campaigns were supported by Township Directors, representatives of the churches, religious institutions, and international and civil society organizations.
Korek staffs always do their best to make sure that they deliver humanitarian assist to the IDPs and vulnerable people all over Iraq with no differences of age and gender. Korek strongly believes in supporting the IDPs and it has been striving to help those who have left their homes as result of the current security crisis.
